this restaurant is no different. Taking cues from Parisian bistros, the ornate
facade and parquet flooring is instantly reminiscent of 20th century France.
Sample delicacies such as oysters, French cheese, assorted cold cuts or go for
something heartier like steak-frites or coq au vin. Open all day, it is worth
stopping by if only for a coffee, so that you can enjoy the charming design.

2. Sen 60 Ly
Thai Hoan Kiem District
Sen is a sophisticated restaurant serving a buffet dinner
that will impress everyone – even people who don’t usually like buffets!
Located in the heart of the French Quarter, the ivory-color scheme and
neo-colonial architecture is a suitable match for the excellent seafood,
oysters, sashimi, crab, escargot and Vietnamese spring rolls served inside. The
service is seamless here and cost of the buffet is excellent value, especially
considering it proximity to the Hanoi Opera House and several of the finest
hotels in the city. There are three other branches of Sen in Hanoi but this is
the best of the bunch.

3. Quan An Ngon
Ba Dinh District
This very successful restaurant opened its first branch in
Saigon and the concept was jumped on by foreign visitors hungry to try the full
range of Vietnamese cuisine in one restaurant. The Premise of Quan An Ngon is
like a luxurious food court, with different food stations positioned around the
periphery of the restaurant serving regional specialties from across Vietnam,
all cooked fresh to order. Some complain that it lacks true authenticity with
reduced flavors to appease the Western palate, but everything is very well
prepared and the restaurant is beautifully designed in traditional Vietnamese
style.

4. PIZZA 4P'S

5. Cha Ca La
Vong
Located on a narrow street in the old quarter, this
restaurant takes its name from its one dish wonder: Cha Ca La Vong! With a sea
green interior and a ladder disguised as a staircase to enter into the main
floor, this is a place where English is rarely heard and you don’t have to
bother thinking about what you want; instead you receive what they have, which
has remained the same for decades.
A frying pan of fresh river fish will arrive at your table
with a personal charcoal cooker. Accompanying this is a bowl of fresh rice
noodles, peanuts and fresh herbs. As the fish starts to heat up and the smells
of turmeric and dill start to bloom around you this is when you add the herbs
into the frying pan (I personally like to add the peanuts at this time as well
because I like them hot). Once you are satisfied that the herbs are cooked to
your preference you take the fresh rice noodles and place them in your bowl,
spoon up some of the fish, herbs and flavored oil on top, add some fish sauce
and chilies to further flavor (and a few more fresh herbs if that is your
style) and enjoy!
6. THE LAKE
VIEW (Cau Go)
Situated on the sixth floor overlooking the watery oasis of
Hoan Kiem lake, you’ll be rewarded with sweeping views of Hanoi at Cau Go.
Located in the old quarter, its interior gives off an eclectic French Colonial
vibe without trying too hard to be fussy. Lunch and dinner features varied flavors
and dishes from all parts of the country including Hanoi, Saigon and central
Vietnam, with a contemporary twist.
Drinks, snacks, and entrees are served daily from 10 a.m. If you can,
request an outdoor table for a lovely patio view of Turtle Tower and Hanoi’s
glittering lakeside.

anyone’s stay in Hanoi. Make your way to this mega popular noodle joint in the
Old Quarter and order a bowl of bun bo nam bo (a beef noodle dish originating
in southern Vietnam). Eating at a communal table, with friendly locals and
fellow tourists, the experience isn’t just about the food. As far as street
food goes, Bun Bo Nam Bo takes authenticity to a whole new level.

platter and you barbeque your own dinner over a small gas burning stove. It’s a
fun experience, eating elbow to elbow with a diverse range of customers and the
taste is truly delicious. Located in the heart of the Old Quarter, look for the
crowds of happy diners spilling out onto the pavement.
